Help with navigating around your 3D world

Navigating around a 3D world will be familiar to people who have seen and played modern computer games.

Luckily with VRML you don't need a powerful graphics card to start exploring as the viewing software comes with its own renderer.

Read on to find out how to interact and move within virtual worlds.

Downloading: Once you have clicked on a virtual reality link, its window will open and it will begin downloading. If the window at first appears blank don't worry as the file will be downloading all the geometry and textures.

Please read the file size indicated next to the link to estimate how long it will take. Around 200-300k is relatively small even for modem users.

Moving: Once the image appears you can begin walking/exploring. To do this simple click your mouse anywhere in the image and, with the mouse button still pressed, drag in any direction. Drag left and right to turn.

Tips: To go faster hold down SHIFT. You can also change your overall navigation speed by right clicking anywhere in the window, choosing "speed" and adjusting it accordingly.

To look up and down hold down the space bar as you drag. Note: this can result in a very obscure viewing angle, for information on advanced navigation you can go to the relevant help section by CLICKING HERE.

To side step/pan sideways, hold the ALT key.

Links/anchors: If you see a finger symbol when you mouseover an object it means you can interact with it. This is very similar to a web browser and can affect navigation of both the worlds and the web browser e.g. opening other web pages or triggering events within the virtual world.
